About Doctor Dan, D.C.

Dr. Dan Schneider started his practice in Nappanee, Indiana, a town of 4000 in northern Indiana near South Bend and Notre Dame.

In 1983 he moved his practice to Elkhart, Indiana where his son, Mark, joined him in 1986 after graduating from the National University of the Health Sciences, in Lombard, Illinois.

A Family Tradition

Dr. Dan’s dad came to the United State from Berlin, Germany in 1927. After suffering for many years with migraine headaches, his dad found out about the benefits of chiropractic and pursued a degree in chiropractic as well as Naturopathy. Chiropractic stayed “in the blood” as Dr. Dan and his two brothers also became doctors of chiropractic. Dr. Dan’s son Mark also followed suit and still maintains the Schneider Clinic in Elkhart, IN.

Research Studies

After two years of traditional spinal manipulation Dr. Dan was not satisfied with the results he was achieving with lower back pain, leg pains, headaches, and other spine problems. Dr. Morrison, an 84-year-old chiropractor with years of experience, told Dr. Dan about adjustments on the spine that worked well for him. He also told Dan how his wife suffered with menstrual problems and severe low back pain. He had taken his wife to a doctor in Nebraska City, Nebraska because he had heard he had done some unusual work and had great results. His wife was treated for two weeks and when she came home she never had menstrual problems and low back pain again. He advised Dr. Dan to research this doctor's techniques and study under him. This was the beginning of new research for Dr. Dan.

At his first research seminar in Chicago, Dr. Dan felt as though a whole new world had opened up to him. The next 22 years he pursued research with the SacroOccipital Research Society. Slipped discs and chronic low back problems didn't frustrate him like they had in the past because the puzzle of how, when, and where to start and what to do was more precise and accurate than the general adjustment and treatment taught at the clinic intern level.

To compliment this new and better approach for back pain Dr. Dan took a trip to Europe with his dad in 1968. They visited Germany and Switzerland to study at the great spas and natural health centers.

The next big change in practice came in 1980 when Dr. Dan’s wife Aletta was involved in a car accident. Aletta suffered severe whiplash injury to her neck. She was unable to turn her neck either way for six month even though she was receiving Dr. Dan’s best care.

While attending a course on chiropractic medicare training, Dr. Dan talked to a doctor from St. Louis, Mo. who was using an activator instrument in his practice and getting great results. He talked about a patient he had who could not hold her head upright and carried it near her shoulder for 15 years. After a series of treatments she was able to hold her head upright for the first time. Hoping that the activator instrument could help Aletta, Dr. Dan decided to contact Activator Methods to learn more about the research they were doing.

Dr. Dan took Aletta to a research meeting in Chicago to see if she could get help. When Aletta was examined, they found she had a severe short leg which indicated that she may also have severe problems in the neck. After several exams and tests, Dr. Fuhr said Aletta should be better in a couple weeks. Dr. Dan went home with great anticipation but Aletta was filled with doubt. This new instrument didn’t seem like the old crack in the back she was use to. Could it possibly work?

After two weeks and several calls to Dr. Fuhr, Aletta was driving down the long driveway from her house and stopped for traffic and looked both ways. Then she cried. She couldn’t believe what she just did. Had it not been for his wife Aletta, Dr. Dan would not be practicing the Activator Method of Chiropractic today.
